Some shots of my set design for Sophocles' greek tragedy The Trachiniae (or The Women of Trachis). It was lit from behind for the glowy effect with lighting from the front as well. I tried to approach it as if it could actually be translated into a full size production, although the simpicity of it might end up costing me marks.
The play tells the story of Deianeira's accidental killing of Heracles.
It made me remember how much I love greek mythology.
It was fun to do, though a bit grueling as I have a terrible 'last minute' habit and I really had to whip this out of nowhere. I stayed up all night finishing it and lighting it and then spent the whole next day doing the supporting storyboard and poster and stuff (which were terrible as a result of me falling asleep whilst doing them, which is the reason they're nowhere to be seen here).
Ha, last minute-habits are my thing too. Unfortunately, not always fortunate for the quality, indeed. Nightly working is often the case. My latest colorful poster was colored at 5AM with me floating between dream and reality. very trippy !
I often find a strange kind of drive can take place at night that never happens during the day due to a feeling of there still being plenty of time and distractions.
